Danish born artist Erik Gamdrup Jensen was born in Bryrup in 1953.
His education resulted in a degree in art and geography with addition of a
teaching qualification which led to his being employed as an Educational
Officer in a museum. He specialised in exhibitions, graphic, photographic
aspects and Public Relations.
Prolonged study tours abroad: 6 months in South- and East Europe and Africa
(1976), 6 months in South-east Asia (1978), 6 months in Portugal (1985), 4
months in Brazil (1994), 1 month in India (2000). He has worked every winter in
Portugal since 1986.
Erik Gamdrup Jensen's main field is painting but he has great ability in
others. These include Sculpture, the decorative arts and multi-media
installations. His latest decorative work of art commissioned by Civil
Authorities in 1997 are: "Cry Wolf", placed in the Skejby Hospital - Denmark
and "Dialog" 1997 (in collaboration with Poul Pedersen, Paris) and "Letters of
indulgence" 1999 in the Silkeborg College of Education - Denmark. In 1999 some
of his works with the "Moors" were placed in Nykredit, Silkeborg, Denmark.
Erik Gamdrup Jensen is also a talented writer and this is often done in
conjunction with his painting as the following publications illustrate,
"Agurketid" - 1989, "Mercedes" - 1991, "Historie" - 1992 , "Varmeværket" - 1996
and "Afladsbreve" - 1999.
Erik Gamdrup Jensen's first public showing was in 1978 and since then he has
had major exhibitions in the following countries, Norway, Germany, Russia,
Thailand, South Africa, Latvia and Portugal. He is on permanent display in his
home country Denmark.
In 1999 his works with the "Moors" were put on exhibition in The Museum of
Silves, Portugal and in The Art Museum, in Frederikshavn, Denmark. In year 2001
his work "The Diary" (367 works) were shown in The Art Centre Silkeborg Spa,
Denmark
